Wat anderen zeggen

business improv:

‘not just funny business’

I remember my troupe's director pitching classes at the end of a show once, and he said that improv changed his DNA, and I'd have to agree with him. I'm more outgoing, more confident, a better listener, and I hate my day job much more than I did before.

Improv has taught my employees how to be vulnerable in front of over 200 people during a show. How to listen to other people and make your scene partner shine. It has taught us to live in the moment and react to the opportunities presented in front of us.

Niet wachten op het moment om te reageren, maar luisteren. not thinking of the next thing to say, not waiting for my turn to speak, but listening. Other stuff: Not talking in questions and committing to my choices, and sharing who I am and how I feel with others.

Got me more comfortable with risk and the unknown (and, related to that, led me to changing my career). Made me funnier. Made me more open, and more willing to be vulnerable. More confidence. Pushed my bias to saying yes. Helped me build a habit of searching for the positive and fun in everything. So many new friends. And, ultimately, led me to see myself as an artist (gulp!).

Improv helped me develop confidence and a voice I didn't know I had.

Improv taught me so much about human communication that the first time I realized it I felt like Neo seeing the falling lines of code for the first time.

Improv has taught me the values of listening more then you talk and not adding uncessary things to conversations. It's taught me to be collaborative with other people in and out of arts. It's taught me patience even when it's hard. To not shut down ideas or "yes, but" "no, but" people. It has been really benefical in and out of performing.

Make it stand out.

  • Dream it.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
